Mufti Abdul Qadir Barkatulla is an Islamic Shariah law scholar with a background in economics and finance. He has undertaken both traditional Islamic studies and modern academic training in India and the United Kingdom.
Teaching & Professional Roles
He serves as a Lecturer in Islamic Finance at Ebrahim College and previously served as a senior Imam at a mosque in North Finchley for approximately ten years.
He is also a director of the Islamic Computing Centre, where he contributed to the publication (1986) of early electronic databases covering the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic history, and Islamic law.
Judicial & Advisory Roles
Mufti Abdul Qadir Barkatulla serves as a Shariah Judge at the Islamic Shariah Council, where he has developed extensive experience in addressing socio-cultural and economic matters affecting Muslim communities in the UK and Europe.
He is a member of the UK Fatwa Committee of the European Council for Fatwa and Research and serves as Chair of the Shariah Board of the Halal Food Authority.
Finance & Industry Involvement
He is a member of Shariah supervisory boards for several financial institutions, including Al Rayan Bank (formerly Islamic Bank of Britain), Arab Banking Corporation, and United Bank Limited.
