Email received from some client regarding unfair khula process and charges of Islamic Fatwa Council
I am seeking advice regarding a khula matter. I applied for khula through the Islamic Fatwa Council, and the imam informed me that my marriage would be dissolved within 4 weeks of contacting my husband. He requested a payment of £350 before proceeding, which I paid. However, I am confused, as I was under the impression that the khula process takes a minimum of 3 months, due to the requirement of sending monthly letters to my husband and allowing him time to respond.
Furthermore, the imam told me that if he attempts to call me and I don’t answer, I would need to make an additional payment of £350 to continue the process. I’ve received my dissolution of marriage certificate, but in a separate email, the imam referred to my husband as "Abdul," which is not his name. The imam also mentioned that “Abdul” had been disrespectful to them on multiple occasions, though my husband has never spoken to him.
Could you please advise if this situation is acceptable? I’ve come across several posts questioning the legitimacy of these individuals, and I’m concerned.
Below are some of the emails we have received regarding the terrible practice of some “sharia councils”. Please be careful who you approach for help.
A 'so called'/bogus Islamic Fatwa Council has been harassing me and could be imitating one of your legitimate Councils.
I have included the main complaint points below and screenshots of emails/texts have been attached too.
