Ustadh Mohamed Jeylani Saeed pursued Islamic studies in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya.
Born and raised in Kenya, his formative years were profoundly shaped at Rawdhah Islamic Institute in Malindi, the country’s first Islamic seminary. There, he dedicated four years to a rigorous program in classical Islamic sciences, studying jurisprudence, principles of jurisprudence, Qur’anic exegesis, and the Prophetic traditions. In 2005, he made history as the first individual to complete the full program at Rawdhah, graduating with the highest overall marks in his final exams.
Teaching Journey
Mohamed’s passion for teaching began at Rawdhah, where he tutored fellow classmates. After graduation, he worked as a teaching assistant in an online Islamic studies program, further honing his instructional skills.
He went on to teach Qur’an and Islamic studies in London mosques, including a successful children’s summer intensive at Taiba Mosque Complex (2014–2015), alongside weekend and community classes. At the Taiba Community Centre, he also taught weekday evening classes at an Islamic school.
From 2010 to 2014, Mohamed served as Imam at Taiba Mosque Complex, teaching Qur’an and Islamic studies. He simultaneously held leadership roles as Principal of Darul-Azar Islamic Academy Evening School and Taiba Madrasa Academy Weekend School, overseeing more than 150 students and managing a team of 13 teachers.
Leadership & Community Engagement
Ustadh Mohamed is deeply committed to fostering unity, understanding, and inclusivity. He designs community programs, delivers weekly sermons, and actively engages with people in their everyday lives, embodying his dedication to service.
Since 2020, he has served as the main Khateeb for the Eid Khutbah in Barking, London, where more than 6,000 worshippers gather each year. He also visits various mosques across London to deliver Friday sermons. Beyond the Muslim community, Mohamed has been invited to public schools in North and East London to speak about Islam and Muslims, helping to promote awareness and understanding.
He also appears on Islam Channel’s Q&A sessions, responding to viewers’ questions and offering advice on matters of faith and practice.
